With our new state-of-the-art manufacturing and distribution facility in Tauriko, we have got a range of opportunities available to locals seeking to take their career to a new level. Luka Craig has already grasped the opportunity and is absolutely loving it …

What do you do here?

I’m the Mechanical Maintenance Manager, which means I’m ultimately responsible for looking after the maintenance of the entire site and its assets, including the buildings, offices and of course the manufacturing plant and equipment.

What attracted you to the role?

A couple of things really. Firstly, this is such a great opportunity to be involved with the start-up of a brand new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. It’s not every day that a plant like this gets built in little old New Zealand and to be able to establish systems and processes to look after all of it is a great challenge that I am loving. Also it’s awesome to be a part of a company with a great reputation and history of helping build New Zealand Homes. Additionally, the security and career pathways that are available as part of the Fletcher Building group offer peace of mind and endless opportunities.

Has it lived up to expectations so far?

I joined in March – and yup, absolutely. The biggest thing that’s struck me is the sense of pride and satisfaction among the team at what they do. Coming into the business, I’d always had an appreciation that GIB® plasterboard and the compounds are all quality products, but as part of the team you can really see why this is – and the personal responsibility the guys take so they can stand behind the integrity of the product. To top it off it’s a great culture here, all the way from the top right through.

What would you say to anyone thinking about applying for a role at the new plant?

This truly is a unique opportunity to be part of something special. For a New Zealand company to invest in a manufacturing facility of this scale in these times really shows a commitment and belief in what they do. The new facility really does cement Winstone Wallboards and GIB® plasterboard at the heart of New Zealand’s manufacturing industry.

With this it offers great security and opportunity for all. And as a Tauranga lad, I think this is massive for the area and the local economy.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I’m lucky enough to have a lifestyle block where I live with my wife and two young girls. When I get the chance, I love to get down in my shed working on all sorts of projects including my Ford F100 pickup.
