Type-1 Eco-Choice Ecolabels use a full life-cycle assessment approach (from www.ecochoiceaotearoa.org)
There are many decisions to make when choosing materials and products for a building project. Adding a desire to use environmentally sustainable products can add a layer of complexity, confusion, and potentially extra cost. Then there is “greenwashing”. What product marketing claims can you genuinely trust, and how environmentally friendly are they across a product’s entire lifetime?
At Winstone Wallboards, we want to make sustainable construction using NZ-made plasterboard products as easy as possible for our customers and their clients. So, we were really excited to recently certify the entire GIB® plasterboard range with an Eco Choice Aotearoa Type 1 ecolabel!
Having a Type-1 eco-label means we are genuine and transparent about our environmental sustainability with all our environmental responsibility claims backed up by a regular ‘third-party’ audit process. Moreover, ‘continuous improvement’ is a core component of maintaining an Eco Choice Aotearoa eco-label, which ties nicely to the Winstone Wallboards way of working!
Our new Eco Choice Aotearoa eco-label also helps our customers gain extra credits towards Green Star, Homestar, and Living Building Challenge accreditations.
As we look ahead to 2026, we aim to gain even more momentum on our GIB® sustainability journey – bringing our customers along on that journey too. This includes refreshing some of our Environmental Certifications | GIB® and developing guidance on using our products certification more effectively in your tenders and projects.
So have a great summer – and watch this space!
